Can Automated Cars Really Be Mass\nAdopted?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\nhaven\u2019t heard about automated cars, you haven\u2019t been paying attention. The idea\nwas first made mainstream by Tesla, who touted it as one of their biggest\nselling features. But since then, the tech has quickly been getting adopted<\/a>, and integrated into other models. BMW,\nNissan, Ford, General Motors, and more have all adopted the technology to some\nextent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though,\nthe technology now is only semi-automated, offering some level of self-driving\nability. But speculations are already running rampant as to when a fully\nautomated car will be introduced. It seems inevitable, and that the technology\nwill soon dominate that automobile industry around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or will\nit? Can automated cars be widely adopted, or is it a matter of the technology\nbeing destined for a niche market?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\ndoesn\u2019t take much to understand, or appreciate, the benefits of a car that\ndrives itself. What could be better than punching in a destination, sitting\nback, playing at online gambling casinos in NZ<\/a>, and letting the car do the driving? It is a prospect so inviting that\neveryone will want to jump on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it\nstands, researchers are yet to declare that an automated vehicle is safer than\none driven by a human. But predictions are that, even with some automated\nsystems already involved in mishaps, that they are still around 10% safer than\na human driver. But this has yet to be established, or backed up with reliable\ndata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So\nconvenience and safety are the two biggest benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cons<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viral\nvideos are rampant, showing drivers asleep behind the wheel, while the car\noperates itself. This has gained widespread attention, but only because it has\nbeen explicitly stated by manufacturers that the driver should always be on\nstandby to take over, given that the systems are not yet fully reliable. A\ndriver may have to take over at short notice, if the vehicle gets into a\nsituation where it can no longer manage the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally,\nautomated cars are also limited in a number of areas<\/a>. Lane changing capability, for example, has\nonly been recently added to the most advanced Tesla models. It has also been\nexplained that in order for the AI to operate effectively, things like clear\nlane designation lines are best, and obstacles such as potholes or other debris\nin the road are still a serious problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So given\nthe limitations, and the costs involved, are most eager to snap up this cutting\nedge, yet still not fully developed, technological leap forward?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It Remains To Be Seen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it\nstands, very few people own vehicles with automation capabilities, but the\nadoption rate has been fairly rapid. It would seem like the integration of the\ntech into all cars, maybe even Formula One<\/a> would be a standard leap forward, but that really does remain to be\nseen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the\nmoment it seems like most manufacturers are reluctant to adopt the systems\nbroadly into all their models, given the still major levels of mistrust from\nconsumers, and the general costs involved.
